Week 21 pregnancy

Twenty One Weeks Pregnant

You may feel like you have a little ninja growing inside you this week as the initial butterflies in your tummy have turned into big kicks and punches!

Your baby is now the length of a carrot and weights about 3/4 of a pound. As you feel the fetal movements getting stronger, you will also begin to notice that your little one has a pattern of activity.

All of his or her body parts are becoming more and more defined. The eyebrows and eyelids are there, and if you’re having a girl, her vagina is forming.

The taste buds have formed and research suggests that your baby can taste the things you taste because of swallowing a little of the amniotic fluid. The taste of the fluid differs depending on your diet. It’s possible that your baby will be eager to eat the same foods later that they tasted while in the womb.

How You Are Changing

You are probably feeling pretty good. You’re belly is not too big yet, and the usual discomforts of early pregnancy should be gone. If this is the case, enjoy it because the third trimester brings on a whole new set of discomforts.

However, it’s not to say things are completely care free. Some women experience acne right about now, due to an increase in oil production. If you experience this, be sure to wash your face a little more often with a gentle soap and use a make-up that is oil-free.

Some women are prone to developing varicose veins. As you progress in your pregnancy, there will be more pressure on the veins in your legs. In addition, higher progesterone levels will cause the walls of your veins to relax, and this can make the problem worse. Daily exercise, wearing support hose, propping up your feet and sleeping on your left side, can minimize varicose veins.

Spider veins are another type of vein that may appear on your legs, ankles or face. They don’t cause any pain and will usually go away soon after child birth.
