24 Weeks Pregnant

Your baby is the size of an ear of corn and you may notice your belly button popping out soon!

Week 24 pregnancy

The weight gain is on…your baby has already gained about 4 ounces since last week. That makes him or her about 1 1/3 pounds and the length of an ear of corn.

24 Weeks Pregnant

Although still lean, your baby is beginning to fill out proportionally and will soon start to look like a plump little baby. If your baby was born now, he or she would have a 50% chance of surviving.

Your baby’s brain is growing rapidly, taste buds continue to develop and the lungs are maturing. The thin, translucent skin will start changing soon too.

While in the womb, your baby will develop patterns of sleeping and wakefulness. Although it may seem to you that they never stop moving. Also, your baby may respond to sounds and touch from outside the womb that you may be able to feel.

How You Are Changing

You may be spending a fair amount of time touching or watching your belly, waiting to feel or see your baby’s movements under your shirt. As the weeks go by, these movements will become stronger and stronger and you may be able to detect if it’s an arm, leg or fist you see poking against you.

Between this week and week 28, your doctor will have you take a glucose screening test. This test checks for gestational diabetes, which is a type of diabetes that some pregnant women get. It is actually one of the most common health problems during pregnancy.

Gestational diabetes increases the risk of having complications with a vaginal delivery and often results in a c-section because it causes a baby to grow too big. In addition, your baby could have other problems such as low blood sugar after birth.
